TAORMINA AND GIARDINI NAXOS BEACHES

Isola Bella

The most famous is for sure Isola Bella, also called “Pearl of the Mediterranean“. It was declared a nature reserve in 1998, it's a small island a few meters from the shore and connected to it by a thin isthmus that rises from the clear waters. Isola Bella is the most beautiful beach in Taormina. The pebble beach, set at the foot of the city, stretches out in front of the homonymous islet, colored by rich vegetation. The island is connected to the mainland by a thin strip of beach, which disappears and reappears according to the rhythm of the tides. The water in this point is so clear that it lends itself to activities such as snorkeling and diving.

Giardini Naxos

The beach of Recanati in Giardini Naxos is especially loved for its fine sand, there are beautiful beaches where you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds. The coast of Giardini Naxos, south of Taormina, is the largest beach in the area and alternates fine sand and pebbles. The golden beach is surrounded by thick Mediterranean vegetation and free and equipped stretches. With its many bars and restaurants, the Giardini Naxos beach is known for its quality nightlife. It's a seaside resort that was very popular during the summer, the town extends from Capo Schisò to Capo Taormina. Mazzarò

Situated in an enchanting inlet between Capo Sant’Andrea and Capo Mazzarò where nature dominates the landscape and the sea is emerald-colored. Near Mazzarò, there are marine gorges and caves to explore with fins and mask. The small beach of Mazzarò rises in the bay to the north of Isola Bella and is one of the most appreciated beaches in the area. The coastline, characterized by pebbles, has clear stretches and shores equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds. The beach of Mazzarò can be reached by the spectacular cable car that departs from Taormina. Unmissable is the famous Blue Grotto, a unique spectacle given by the color of the water that is reflected on all the walls of the cave.

Gorges of Alcantara

The river Alcantara marks the boundary between the Provinces of Messina and Catania. Along 27 Km of its length it brushes up against the territory of Randazzo and flows on towards the coast, separating the volcano Mt. Etna from the mountains to the north. The spectacular gorges were created by the erosion and cooling of the lava flowing from the crater of Mount Dolce, between Linguaglossa and Randazzo, on the Etna massif. The gorges show the inner part of the flow with the splendid, columnar fissures of magma rapidly cooled by the gushing water. More than 20m (57 ft) deep the gorges have bizarre basalt prisms dotted here and there with cool spontaneous vegetation.
